It's like a train wreck.
Wait, no... it is a train wreck.

Excellent find Shaun! I'm going to try to use this to sort out my future nation(s). Thanks.

These are very interesting. I hope I will have the time to think (at least a bit) about answers to all of these.

Ooh... That's a lot. It will be a great tool to work with! We just have to decide how detailed we need to be to get started. Filling the whole list while debating with your neighbors might take long. But this is absolutely something to strive towards.

In the same vein, if you can find it - there's a whole load in places on the net, including some done for con-countries like ours - is the "How to tell if you're a (X)..." culture test. Not sure where they are but I think Googling the phrase should turn them up.

I thought it was relevant, but you'll have to interpret "magic" as some sort of superstition or "old faith". That's one of the things I missed in Esh/OWP1, what do we have in terms of witches, vampires, angels, werewolves, leprechauns, nasdaq, elves, the tooth fairy, the grim reaper, trolls, etc etc. This isn't exactly a fantasy game, but the cultural aspects of the supernatural, seeping through in everyday life, that's something that we don't have at all. With hordes of nomads raging around on the continent every now and then, it might be possible to have some common, continental figures, customs and sayings. Equivalent of "fingers crossed", "knock on wood" etc. We don't have to invent them, we can grab a few from the religious histories once we have rewritten those.

Arlatur has a bit of that, actually, drawing from its Thurun roots. I hope to get that written up in presentable form in a few days!

Arlatur is a bit of an isolate here, it will be difficult to get a continental following. However, it will give a good example, inspiration. Right now, it's a detail, but one that in the long run might have a large impact.

Arlatur is definitely meant to be an isolate, a cultural pillar, in a way. It doesn't proselytise, but it does survive contact with ravening nomad hordes and doesn't strongly syncretize with Jakarism (it's fairly opposed in outlook to Siriash).

I figured, as you said, that detail might inspire others. It gets my creativity flowing, which is important, too!
